This summer…Holiday Club  Escaped to Narnia!

This year, Holiday Club escaped through the wardrobe and into a Narnia Adventure! The children entered through a large wardrobe built into the entrance of the church and then into a pine forest covered with snow that was our very own Narnia! There they met Mr and Mrs Beaver who retold the story of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe over the course of the three days. We enjoyed singing our very own home-composed song ‘A Narnia Adventure’, the children entered into messy challenges and got creative and active while solving problems as teams. This included ‘rescuing’ the children from blocks of ice and making their way across the frozen river that was melting!

On the Wednesday we held the inaugural Narnia Olympics at Cair Paravel (The old school field) where the children took part in 12 different games/activities/challenges including Susan’s archery school, dodgeball and splat the rat!

As we came back together each day at noon, we shared God’s big story of love for his people told over the three days. We began with God’s beautiful world being ruined by people fighting and taking God’s crown for themselves, thinking they knew best. We heard how Judas betrayed Jesus (as Edmund betrayed his siblings, Aslan and all of Narnia) and how Jesus friends all ran away from him. Day two brought the saddest of events as we saw Aslan and Jesus both die in the place of those who had taken their crown and betrayed their love and friendship. Finally, on the Thursday we entered into the joy of Aslan and Jesus being brought back to life by the power of God, restoring broken friendships, bringing new life and defeating the powers of evil and death forever!

As always, the children were an absolute delight and entered into all we did with joy and creativity themselves. Look out for more Narnia Adventures throughout this year at the Churches Together Holiday Club team run more events at Halloween, Christmas and Easter.
